Richmond Hill, ON (February 5, 2007) Pathways for Children, Youth and Families, a charitable organization serving at-risk youth and young families in York Region, provides options for homeless and street-oriented youth in Richmond Hill.
In December, more than 60 youth who visit Pathways Home Base Youth Drop-in Centre received a festive holiday dinner thanks to the efforts of several community volunteers and donors. The event demonstrated the generous and collaborative efforts of many individuals and organizations from various sectors of our community including political, faith-based, voluntary and business.
"The compassion shown to youth in York Region through the partnership of caring groups including Curves Fitness, St Mary's Anglican Church, Central United Church, Precious Flowers 'N Things, Starbucks, Aramark Canada, Sue's Produce, Harry's No Frills, Sheridan Hotel, Fieldstone Day School, along with numerous community volunteers preparing and serving a hot turkey dinner, distributing gifts, and sharing kindness is truly inspirational!" says Councilor Lynn Foster, Town of Richmond Hill, and Pathways Home Base volunteer.
With life's challenges it can be hard for a young person to stay on track. Pathways' Home Base Youth Drop-in centre offers down time, answers and support. A lifetime community resident, Mary Haffey, Pathways Volunteer and Board Chair reinforces the importance of telling this story: "This dinner is just one example of the incredibly generous and thoughtful gifts bestowed on others at this special time of year. It speaks to the special character of people in York Region - we truly are a Character Community."
