DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
I am happy to report that Council has approved the building of Richmond Hill's first off leash dog park. The Park will be built on undeveloped Town land in Ward 4. The site will be just under one hectare in size, with a separated fenced area for small dogs and puppies within the larger off leash area. Chain link fencing will be around the perimeter with a double gated entrance and exit. A notice board will be placed at the facility entrance with rules clearly posted. There will be a container for disposal of dog waste and liter and seating around the area for the humans. Additional features for pet exercise and agility equipment may be considered for the inclusion in the off leash areas.
This is a one year test of this facility and I am expecting great success. I have had many residents asking for a facility like this for their dogs. This dog park will be evaluated by Parks and Recreation after a one year period with a report to come back to Council to provide a follow-up information on the success of this facility. It is important that all dogs and humans who use this park make sure that it is kept clean and that the rules are adhered to. I want to thank the hard work of the K9 Klub and in particular residents Ana Nair and Norm McLeod for helping bring this vision to Richmond Hill. It will be the responsibility of the K9 Klub to work with Parks Staff to make this a resounding success. If you would like to join the RHK9 Klub to help represent dog owners in our community and to help with this exciting new park you can contact them at

We expect to cut the ribbon in August and I hope your family dog will bring you to the festivities!!!
