Front Garden Recognition
What is Front Garden Recognition?Front Garden Recognition is a program designed to beautify Richmond Hill by encouraging residents to create attractive, colourful and well-maintained front gardens.
How Can my Garden be Nominated?
Between Monday, June 6 and Tuesday, July 5, 2011 you can nominate your own garden or a neighbour or friend can nominate your garden.
What are the Criteria to Receive a Sign?
All gardens in the Town of Richmond Hill are eligible, but you must be nominated to have your garden considered.
Only front and side gardens are eligible.
Gardens must have curb appeal.
Gardens must be well maintained.
Gardens must exhibit a good selection and arrangement of plant material and colour.
Gardens must not contain artificial flowers or holiday decor.
How are the Gardens Being Judged?
The Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society will be sending out teams of volunteers to look at and judge every garden that is nominated from Friday, July 15 through Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
Each garden will be judged based on the criteria above, and if there is a consensus among the judges, the garden will receive a sign. If the garden does not meet the criteria, the judges will leave a letter of recognition. As always, we thank you for your participation and remind you, that the decisions of the judges are final.
When are the Gardens Being Judged?
Judging will take place from Friday, July 15 through Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
The Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society
The Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society is a great way to meet people who also love gardening and to gain valuable knowledge from members who have been gardening for years. There are 13 monthly meetings, providing opportunities for members to share helpful information.
Programs include:
- guest speakers;
- flower shows;
- workshops;
- community planning projects;
- planting baskets and barrels around Town;
- Front Garden Recognition;
- Open Gates Garden Tour;
- member garden tours;
- bus trips;
- annual corn roast; and
- much more!
