Doors Open Richmond Hill and more...
March 31st, 2009
As I write this column it is still cold and snowy out my front window and I can't wait for Spring. There are some wonderful events happening soon, including the Mill Pond Splash - Sunday, May 31, Heritage Village Day, Saturday June 13 and of course the very popular Concerts in the Park at Mill Pond Park every Thursday evening from July 9 to August 27. This year we have a new initiative attached to Heritage Village Day and that is Doors Open Richmond Hill. This concept provides residents and visitors the opportunity to tour a variety of heritage and cultural facilities in Town free of charge that have been identified as properties with an interesting heritage value to the community. We have selected a number of beautiful and interesting sites including the Burr House, McConaghy Seniors Center, Richmond Hill Center for the Performing Arts, Amos Wright House, and others with an interesting history and wonderful architectural story to tell about our community. In addition we will be providing horse drawn wagon rides through the downtown section of Ward 4 with a guide on board to provide colour commentary about different heritage homes on the route. It will be a fun day to promenade on Yonge Street and see all the vendors who will be attending and to join us for a fascinating tour of some of our most interesting buildings...come out and learn about the rich history of Richmond Hill through our built heritage. So make sure you have got your date booked to join us June 21 for Heritage Village Day in Richmond Hill and for our first everDoors Open Richmond Hill. Hope to see you there!
